One process that is considered very important to the health of coral reef ecosystems (and that may be currently under stress) is their connectedness to surrounding systems. What is meant by the concept of connectedness and by what processes are coral reefs “connected” to other surrounding systems? Your response should include some possible implications of this connectedness to coral reef management. The description of reef connectedness that you provide should include at least two examples from the scientific literature that illustrate its importance.
